Let me start this post about getting my daughter her very own and first gaming system by taking a little step back and remembering how far we have come in just my life time. My first gaming system way back when and I know I am dating my self here is Pong! That singular pixel dot that in the blazing colors of black and white opened the door way for me in what has become a lifelong partner as I have gotten older.
So needless to say I have been waiting a long time until my first child would be old enough to really start and enjoy her first Nintendo DSi, pink of course. Now we all the other major gaming devices in the house that my daughter has tooled around with from time to time but it’s only been in the last year that she has really shown genuine interest in some of the games that happen to be on display and playable at the local gaming store.
So here I am some thirty some odd years removed from that old Pong game and I am finally taking the dive into the last gaming devices market that we don’t have in the house. Like I said we have been waiting for our daughter to show interest in it before getting it. Anyway we already know that we are getting the latest DSi in the color of pink, is there really any other color Nintendo DS that a young girl would want?
Get The Pink DSi!
So beyond the choice of colors for our daughters new DSi is of course the more important decision of what games to start her library of DS games. I’ve just started going through game reviews from customers over at Amazon which is a good resource for finding honest opinions on kid friendly games, just a quick tip for all you parents looking for safe games for your kids
I think one of the first new Nintendo DS games that we are leaning towards just so she can jump right into a game and get acclimated to her new DSi is Smart Kids Gameroom. I know it’s an older game and we will probably pick up a cheap used copy . From what I have seen it a collection of two games Smart Girls Playhouse and Smart Boys Gameroom and two one sounds like a good deal to me. She will have her choice of playing either game from the start and they each come with a good assortment of mini games from what I have seen.
Now in terms of some of the newer DS games that are on the hot sellers list lately there are a couple that our daughter has put on her birthday wish list. The first of which is the Scribblenauts which unfortunately does not come out until the 15th of this month so no first hand player reviews of the game yet. On the plus side it has been getting rave reviews from all the critics and the gaming sites that have gotten a gander at the Scribblenauts and it got a ton of awards at this years past E3 conference. So I think this will definitely be on the birthday pile later on this month.
One of the other newer games that my daughter did get to play a little bit of on the demo DSi in the store was the latest Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box game which again has gotten a lot of praise from critics and from parent buying community from what I have seen so far. We may decide to hold back on this one simply because it’s looks to be a little more of an advanced puzzle game for a 6 year old and I have a feeling that either myself or my wife would be spending more time on this game than our daughter would be, of course that would not be a terrible thing either not what we are buying the DSi for though. Like I said we have other systems for our enjoyment this one is for her.
We may just decide on a fun little Disney game for her to get her going like the Disney Princesses or the Tinkerbell game would get her interest for a while. Well those are the plans for the new DSi that will be coming into the family later on this month. This should provide me with plenty more personal experience with the DSi which in turn will give me more ideas for some new posts here at the DS blogshot.
