The DS has been on the decline in Japan all year. Which has been Nintendo’s only display of sales weakness for their hardware division. Although everywhere else in the world the DS continues to dominate the market just like the Wii.
Because of all this hardware domination by Nintendo they went ahead and announced that it is way ahead of it’s earlier profit gains for the year.
Thus they just pushed their profit gain estimates up even farther to a 26% increase. That is just an insane amount money that they bringing in on their 2 systems.
Even with all this good news that just seems to keep rolling in for Nintendo. The weak DS sales this year in Japan have been leading to wild speculation by market watchers and video game bloggers of a possible new edition to the hand held market from Nintendo within this fiscal year which does not end until March 31, 2009. Of course Nintendo has denied any such unit stating all the talk is just rumors.
This is one example of the possible redesigned DS rumor.
The most reasonable rumor though is that there will be at the very least an upgrade to the latest DS on the market. Some of the more popular guesses for this upgrade is a larger display with a dual touch screen. Only time will tell of course.
So what do you think? I know that Nintendo has taken a few lumps this year with the poor showing at E3 and all their executives popping up all over the place apologizing for that show. The lack of quality software and the continued release of crap for the Wii. Still the hardware continues to dominate the market for some reason. I will have to go along with the rumors for the new DS as it seems that most rumors like this which make sense from not only a gaming stand point but a financial gain it would be hard to fight the urge not to upgrade the current DS. I mean look at the bump the PSP got when they went to the slim design last year. That worked so well for them that they went and did it again this year, although I think another upgrade like that so soon might hurt them this time. Well share your opinions and thanks for reading!
