Nintendo DSi Is Coming To America

The Nintendo DSi is coming to America! The DSi has been the focus for Nintendo at the latest GDC as most of the news coming from Nintendo is revolving around the DSi coming to America. For example the announcement that the DSi Ware launch date line up was announced and they are kicking it off with three gaming titles that will be available on April 5th, the long awaited launch day for the DSi.

Before we get into the games though I did want to mention that it was confirmed by Nintendo that everyone that purchases a new Nintendo DSi in America and goes online before October 5th will get for free 1000 Nintendo points. The thousand points is a nice way for you to pick up three of the new DSi ware games as soon as you pick up your new DSi.

The first game is called Birds and Beans and it takes Pyoro from the Wario games of the past and gives them their own little arcade game. Basically eat some beans as the beans fall from the sky, nothing to stressful just some mindless arcade style fun.

The second game again is nothing mind blowing coming out of the starting gate but some good puzzle fun none the less. Art Style:Aquia is a simple puzzle game of blocks where you switch blocks off a stack and try to match the three colors so the blocks can disappear and you can keep advancing.

The last game is the release of Wario Ware:Snapped! Again this is nothing that will blow your socks off but a fun compilation of mini games for you to get some use out of your new DSi camera capabilities.

One more goody that will be available on the DSi ware platform on day one will be the new upgraded Opera browser for all your internet needs. Thankfully the Opera browser for the Nintendo DSi will be a free download.

There was also one more bit of big news announced at the GDC for the new DSi only this was the announcement of a new game that we can be expecting for the DSi later on this year. The release of a new Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks a game that will have you travelling around the Zelda universe in a steam engine train. The premise of the game will based on the touch controls of the wildly popular Phantom Hourglass. There were promises of lots more dungeons and puzzles through out the game. I am split on how I feel about another Zelda game for the DS and DSi as there was no announcement for a Zelda game coming to the Wii anytime soon  I am interested to see how Nintendo will step up the look and feel of the touch controls from Phantom Hourglass. Hopefully this is not just a rehashing of the previous Zelda game and we will see some more innovations for the Legend of Zelda series.

Now all this news for the Nintendo DSi is great and I am looking forward to getting my hands on the new DSi. However as the GDC is coming to an end and we have seemingly seen all the big news out of Nintendo that we are going to see for now. I have to say that I was left with that nagging uneasy abandoned feeling when it came to game announcements for the Wii. Seriously people the biggest news I saw for the Wii was the SD card solution for space saving which is great and was long overdue. In terms of games though the most Wii game news that I have seen are all the new previews and game trailers for the new Punch Out. Again this is great as well and it looks to be shaping up as a must buy game but we have known about and seen stuff for Punch Out for quite a while already. Is it just me or was the news from Nintendo out of the GDC this year for the Wii less than stellar?
