A DSi Rundown With Pictures

If you are a true gamer than you are already aware of the big Nintendo news that came out of Japan last nite confirming all the speculation that there will be a new DS coming to the market. Well here it is the new DSi coming to the Japanese market on Nov 1st. I assume they are pushing it to the Japanese market first as that has been the only territory this year that has seen an actual decline of DS sales and an increase in PSP sales. The rest of us apparently are not that big on the Monster Hunter series for the PSP which is what has fueled the decline of the DS Lite there. Come Nov 1st though Nintendo will most certainly reclaim global domination of the hand held market.

So lets review all the new features of what is certain to be the king of hand helds in 2009. The first thing you might notice when you look at the picture above is the black dot in the middle of the hinge well that is one of the two digital cameras. The one on the inside is presumably for future game use the other camera is on the outside for taking regular photos. The other key feature in the above photo are the screens and thier size, they are now both 3.25 inches which is an increase of over 17%.

That next picture obviously is of the back side of the DSi showing you the placement of the second camera. The pictures will be taken at a standard 640×480 resolution that you will be able to transfer to your Wii as well for TV viewing of your pictures. The DSi is also packed with an MP3 player to start directly competing with the iPod market, that should be and interesting battle! So how does the new DSi make room for all this new media capability, well they have done away with the GBA cartridge slot. This not only made room for the new tech toy add ons but it also made the new DSi a bit thinner as well. Don’t worry about all the photos and music you will be putting on that new DSi of your either as Nintendo has answered the storage problem by adding on a SD card slot!

Hopefully the addition of the SD card slot for the new DSi will be a sign of things to come for the storage problems we all have for the Wii. I am certainly looking forward to getting my hands on this new DSi either in the white or the black, maybe the black!. My only point of contention with this new DS is the release schedule for all the territories outside of Japan. So far we are being told no solid date other than well into 2009!!! I have seen some reports putting the date around Easter of 2009? Arrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!!!! Talk about being a big tease! Oh well I guess I will have to get by on my DS Lite for now ;-)
